Well, that was a plot twist no one saw coming. The much-anticipated Four Frames of Freedom concert, celebrating South Africa’s 30 years of democracy, was cancelled at the last minute in Cape Town. The culprit? A hijacking on Friday night.
According to the organisers, Jazzart Dance Theatre’s vehicle was hijacked, forcing the cancellation of both the 2pm and 7pm performances at Artscape on Saturday.
Thankfully, the dancers were unharmed in the incident. However, their driver didn’t fare so well and sustained an injury. The team assured fans that the driver was receiving medical attention and their safety remains a top priority.
While the incident was definitely not part of the show’s choreography, the organisers offered their apologies and urged ticket holders to contact Webtickets or Artscape Dial-A-Seat for refunds.
The Four Frames of Freedom performance, a powerful dance tribute to our democratic journey, had previously wowed audiences in cities like Durban and Johannesburg, as well as international spots like Rwanda and Pakistan. But it seems this time, the only “freedom” was the freedom to cancel.
