Anglo American is handing over one of its iconic buildings in the heart of Johannesburg’s CBD to Wits Business School (WBS), and it’s a game-changer for aspiring entrepreneurs. The 15,000-square-metre building will house the Wits Crucible, a shiny new Centre for Entrepreneurship (CfE), designed to equip young South Africans with the skills to turn their ideas into thriving businesses.
Think of it as a hub where academic theory meets real-world hustle. Wits will offer business education, incubation, and acceleration services to help youth and entrepreneurs level up. The CfE will feature four key units: one to help turn ideas into businesses, another to screen and refine those ideas, and two more to support startups as they grow.
Professor Maurice Radebe, Head of WBS, summed it up nicely: “This is about more than just business education. It’s about creating jobs, sparking innovation, and contributing to Johannesburg’s renewal.”
This handover is part of Anglo American’s broader push to give back to communities through education. Just last year, they partnered with Wits to upgrade the Johannesburg Planetarium into a cutting-edge digital hub. They’ve also handed over buildings to support underprivileged youth and to expand education opportunities in other regions.
