Durban Takes Action Against Illegal Dumping in Chatsworth

In a classic example of “what happens when you turn a blind eye,” illegal dumping in Chatsworth’s Garden Refuse Site reached a new low, with everything from bin bags to old furniture being discarded around the area. A viral video posted by The Post kicked the clean-up into high gear, revealing the shocking sight of rubbish scattered near the refuse site and even spilling over a bridge—yes, right next to a busy road!

The community didn’t waste time. Durban Solid Waste (DSW), local volunteers, and concerned residents joined forces to tackle the mess. Volunteers like 69-year-old Danny Reddy couldn’t hold back his frustration. “It’s embarrassing,” he said, “this dumping attitude has got to stop.”

Selvan Moodley, one of the local leaders, rallied a clean-up committee, praising DSW for bringing in the equipment and manpower. And let’s just say, they’re all hoping the area stays clean for longer than the last time—no more turning Chatsworth into the city’s unofficial waste dump.

The residents aren’t letting this issue slide anymore. “If you see someone dumping, fine them!” said 77-year-old Danny Kalpee, who also pitched in. The clean-up is just a start, but the message is clear: enough is enough. Time for the community to take pride in its surroundings—or risk paying the price!
