In a truly “what in the world” moment, uMhlanga’s beaches are closed after what’s being described as “balls of human waste” were spotted along the shoreline. The mystery behind these unpleasant orbs, stretching from the uMhlanga Lighthouse to Bronze Beach, has residents scratching their heads and holding their noses.
Ward 35 Councillor Bradley Singh posted a video warning locals to stay away from the balls, advising, “It seems to be human faeces, don’t touch it!” Fair enough. The City is aware of the issue and is currently investigating what exactly these balls are and how they ended up there. In the meantime, it’s one of those “better safe than sorry” situations, with beaches closed as a precaution.
No word yet from the eThekwini Municipality on when the beaches will reopen, but we’ll be waiting with bated breath – and noses – for the official update. Let’s just hope it’s not more than a bad beach joke.
